Detroit took possession in overtime
and never gave the Los Angeles Rams a chance to respond. The Lions opened with
two strong run plays to set the tone. Khalif Raymond gained a first down on a
jet sweep, followed by a 21-yard run from David Montgomery into Rams territory.
Jared Goff then connected with Jahmyr
Gibbs for a 10-yard gain, putting the Lions in prime position. Sensing victory,
Detroit leaned on Montgomery, who took several more carries and eventually
found the end zone to seal the win. Montgomery finished with 91 rushing yards,
while Gibbs added 40 yards and a touchdown.
Goff completed 18 of 28 passes for 217
yards, including a touchdown and an interception. Early in the third quarter,
he extended Detroit’s lead with a 52-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams,
giving the Lions a commanding 17-3 lead with 10:29 left in the quarter.
The Rams, however, weren’t finished.
Matthew Stafford orchestrated an 11-play, 70-yard drive, capped off by a Kyren
Williams touchdown to narrow the gap. Rams kicker Joshua Karty added a 26-yard
field goal, and Stafford later found Cooper Kupp for a 9-yard touchdown to tie
the game at 17-17.
In the Lions’ final drive of
regulation, Goff led them into field-goal range, allowing Jake Bates to hit a
32-yarder, sending the game into overtime tied at 20-20.
Jameson Williams finished the game
with five catches for 121 yards. Stafford had a standout performance for the
Rams, particularly in the second half, finishing with 317 passing yards, a
touchdown, and an interception. The Rams’ offense took a hit when Puka Nacua
left the game with a knee injury and did not return.
Kupp stepped up in Nacua's absence,
hauling in 14 catches on 21 targets for 110 yards and a touchdown. Tyler
Johnson contributed with five catches for 79 yards.
