Under the Sheikh Kamal IT Business
Incubator project, a 10-story incubation building with an area of 50,000 sq
ft and a 6-storey multipurpose training building of 36,000 sq ft have been
constructed on about 5 acres of land inside the CUET campus in Chattogram.
Incubation buildings include:
Startup Zone, Idea / Innovation Zone, Industry-Academic Zone, Brainstorming Zone, E-Library, Data Center, Research Lab, Bangabandhu Corner, Exhibition Center, Video Conferencing Room, Conference Room etc.
There is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) lab, a machine learning lab, a big data lab, an optical fiber backbone, a sub-station and a solar panel to facilitate the work of entrepreneurs and researchers.
There are also separate corners for banks and IT firms, state-of-the-art cyber cafes, food courts, cafeterias, recreation zones, maker spaces, display zones, press or media coverage zones, own parking facilities, etc.
On the other hand, the multipurpose training building has a well-equipped auditorium with a capacity of 250 people and 8 separate computer lab cum seminar rooms with a capacity of 30 people. Besides, two separate dormitory buildings (1 female and 1 male) with 4 floors each covering an area of 20,000 square feet have been constructed. Each dormitory has 40 rooms. In addition, a state-of-the-art research lab with two mini supercomputers will be set up soon.
According to CUET sources, the Prime
Minister is expected to inaugurate the Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator,
Sheikh Jamal Dormitory and Rosie Jamal Dormitory by joining online from the
edge of Ganobhaban. Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Information and Communication Technology
Adviser to the Prime Minister will also be present on the occasion. State
Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak MP
will deliver the welcome address. The event will be held simultaneously on
online platforms from Ganobhaban, Ministry of ICT and CUET three ends.
Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET) is the only institution of technical education of the south-east region of Bangladesh. It is situated on 163 acres of land blessed with natural settings and only 25 km away from the city of Chittagong. With existing urban facilities comprised of expert faculty of the Departments of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) and Institute of Information & Communication Technology (IICT) as well as the students having brilliant academic track records, CUET is an ideal place to set up ICT incubator In addition, the CUET authority has shown its keen interest to set up ICT incubator in the university campus.
The officials from the MoICT and BHTPA
identified a suitable section of land of about 25 acres in the CUET campus
which is alongside the Chittagong-Kaptai road secured by a boundary wall at
road side. In order to establish ICT incubator at CUET the amended (PPNB) has
been approved by the economic department on 8th November 2012. As per the
directions of economic department the amended PPNB has been sent to the finance
ministry through ICT ministry for promulgating government order.
Objectives:
- To turn the newly graduated students from the ICT related disciplines market ready of global competence.
- To provide favorable environment of ready infrastructure to foster potential entrepreneurship in the ICT sectors.
- To mitigate the crisis of skilled manpower in the ICT field.
- To foster linkages between industry and university for effective technological research and invention.
- To promote knowledge based software industry to realize digitally enabled Bangladesh.
