5G in Bangladesh will be Launched Soon

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that 5G in Bangladesh will be launched through Teletalk on National Information and Communication Technology Day on 12th December or Great Victory Day on 16th December this year. He made the remarks while addressing a webinar titled '5G Ecosystem in Bangladesh and Upcoming Technologies' organized by Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh-TRNB on 25 September, 2021.

5G services, which are able to deliver data speeds up to 50 times faster than 4G networks and serve as critical infrastructure for a range of industries. According to the posts and telecommunications minister, there would be no need to set up new towers or base transceiver stations (BTS) for the 5G network.

The Minister of Telecommunications said, "We have become confident by conducting successful tests of 5G." Where other countries are not thinking of rolling out, we are rolling out 5G. Time is needed to create the kind of environment that is needed to use 5G wireless technology.

"I will start the five-day rollout on December 12, National Information and Communication Technology Day or December 16, the Great Victory Day," he said. We will launch Five G with a conducive environment in hand. He also said the government has decided to auction FiveG spectrum within this years.

Mr. Mustafa Jabbar said, "We are not launching 5G in a hurry." Let those who have partners take advantage and let our people also take advantage of it. 90% of the demand is produced in Bangladesh. I don't think I was in awe of the sets. Mentioning that if 5G is introduced, the lifestyle will change, the minister said, new technologies will come. People need to be motivated when it comes to technology. In this case, people need to be made aware. The industrial factories should be prepared for the future technologies.

Speaking as the special guest on the occasion, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder said that 5G is being launched in the country through Teletalk this year. Preparations have been made for this. AKM Shahiduzzaman, BTRC commissioner and chairman of the 5G policy formulation and implementation committee, said 5G in Bangladesh would be launched in Dhaka within 2021 through Teletalk. The spectrum auction has been completed a few days ago which has created a balance. We will be able to provide services with the spectrum of any band. The BTRC commissioner also said that mobile phone manufacturers have been instructed to have a set that supports 5G.

A new project approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) yesterday. Around Tk 2,200 crore project aims to take Teletalk's 4G network to rural areas and upgrade the existing core and transmission networks line to make it ready for the launch of 5G technology. The main activities of the project are to set up 500 private BTS and 2,500 shared towers, enhance the capacity of the existing 2,000 BTS, install 200 mobile BTS, and upgrade existing 1,000 2G and 3G BTS to 4G. "We will install 5G equipment on these BTS," said Mr. Jabbar, adding that once the just approved project was implemented, user capacity of Teletalk would be double.

Saheb Uddin, managing director (MD) of Teletalk, said that 5G in Bangladesh is going to be launched by December. There is that preparation. 5G will require handset capacity, fiber optic. Society will be transformed through this wireless technology. 5G will work in the field of medical, RMG, agriculture. We will initially launch 200 sites in Dhaka city, 5G equipment will be set up in these points. We will also go where the fiber optic connection will be smooth.

Broadband Internet Price | One Country One Rate | 500 TK

Number of internet users has increased in Bangladesh during the Corona virus (Covid-19) period. Demand for Broadband internet has also grown significantly as a result of recent NEWS, various issues, online business growing etc. Considering the increasing of internet users, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is going to launch internet service across the whole country under the slogan 'One Country, One Rate'.

If this service is launched, the price of broadband internet will be the same in the whole country including the capital Dhaka. There will be three packages for internet users. BTRC will announce the price of these packages in a program soon. This information has been known from the relevant sources.

According to NEWS regarding the price of the three packages, a maximum of TK 500 per month may be fixed in the first package.

• Speed 5 Mbps/sec for monthly TK 500 only

• Speed 10 Mbps/sec for monthly TK 800 only

• Speed 20 Mbps/sec for monthly TK 1200 only

 

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) fixed the rates after multiple meetings with International Internet Gateway, Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network, International Terrestrial Cable and Internet Service Providers.

According to the BTRC, this uniform price of Tk 500 for 5 megabits per second (Mbps) of broadband internet a month to be followed by all internet service providers (ISPs) across the country.

Brig Gen Md Nasim Parvez, director general of the BTRC, presented the tariff plan as part of the "One Country One Rate" initiative at a program in the capital on 6th June 2021 where Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated it.

Among others, Post and Telecommunications Secretary Md Afzal Hossain, BTRC Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder, Vice Chairman Subrata Kumar Maitra, ISPAB President Aminul Hakim, BTCL Managing Director Rafiqul Matin, and Fiber at Home Managing Director Moinul Haque Siddiqui were present.

1. The e-passport application form can be filled online or can be downloaded in PDF format.

2. No documents need to be attested in case of e-passport application.

3. No photo attachment and attestation will be required in the e-passport form.

4. The application form has to be filled as per National Identity Card (NID) or Online Birth Registration (BRC) Certificate.

5. Minor applicants (under 18 years of age) who do not have National Identity Card (NID) must specify the National Identity Card (NID) number of their father or mother.

6. National Identity Card (NID) or Online Birth Registration (BRC) Certificate should be submitted at the following age-

6 (A). Online Birth Registration (BRC) Certificate if under 18 years of age.

6 (B). National Identity Card (NID) or Online Birth Registration (BRC) Certificate of 18-20 years

6 (C). National Identity Card (NID) is required if above 20 years of age. However, Online Birth Registration (BRC) certificate will be acceptable in case of application from Bangladesh Mission abroad.

7. Serial numbers marked with a star must be filled.

8. In case of adoption / guardianship, the order issued by the Department of Security Services, Ministry of Home Affairs has to be submitted along with the passport application.

9. The application should be submitted to the concerned departmental passport and visa office / regional passport office / Bangladesh Mission abroad at present address.

10. The validity of e-passport for all applications below 18 years and above 65 years will be 05 years and 48 pages.

11. Relevant technical certificates (such as: doctor, engineer, driver etc.) need to be uploaded / added.

12. If applicable, relevant GO / NOC / Certificate / Retirement Leave Order (PRL Order) / Pension Book should be uploaded / added which should be uploaded on the respective Website of the issuing authority.

13. If applicable, marriage certificate / marriage certificate and in case of divorce, divorce certificate has to be submitted.

14. Other charges (if any) including VAT at the rate fixed on the fee applicable to the application within the country will be payable in addition. The fee prescribed by the government will also be payable in case of application abroad.

15. Applications for diplomatic passports must be submitted to the Consular and Welfare Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or to the Head Office of the Department of Immigration and Passports.

16. When applying for a new passport from a foreign mission, the contact address of Bangladesh should be mentioned in the permanent address column.

17. In case of urgent passport application (new issue) applicant must collect the police clearance certificate on own initiative and submit it along with the application.

18 (A). If a police clearance is submitted with the application for obtaining an urgent passport within the country, the passport will be issued within 2 working days subject to all other information being correct.

18 (B). If a police clearance is submitted with the application for obtaining an emergency passport within the country, the passport will be issued within 7 working days provided that all other information is correct.

18 (C). If the police clearance is submitted with the application for the purpose of obtaining a regular passport within the country, the passport will be issued within 15 working days provided that all other information is correct.

19. At the time of application, original National Identity Card (NID), Online Birth Registration (BRC) and, if applicable, Technical Certificate, Government Order (GO) / NOC must be submitted / submitted.

20 In case of re-issuance of passport, original passport has to be displayed.

21. In case of lost passport, a copy of original GD has to be shown / submitted.

22. In case of application below 06 years of age, passport size photo (lab print gray background) has to be submitted.

23. If the passport is lost or stolen, the nearest police station should be informed immediately. In case of new passport, application along with photocopy of old passport and GD copy has to be submitted.

But it seems annoying to get promotional SMS / campaigns from the field especially to some customers. Therefore, 'Do Not Disturb' service can be launched to further improve the quality of customer service.

 

I have received an SMS from BTRC saying that ‘If you do not want to receive promotional SMS on your mobile, you can start the 'Do Not Disturb' service by dialing the USSD code, otherwise please don’t’.

Though the service is not new but due to a lack of publicity and awareness, many people do not know about the ‘Do Not Disturb’ service. Recently following the instructions of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, all the operators have re-introduced the service.

Now stop getting annoying promotional SMS from your operators which they send from dawn to sometimes even after midnight. Enjoy!

SEA ME WE 6 | Bangladesh will Connect with New Submarine Cable

Bangladesh is going to be connected with the third submarine cable for the development and to provide better Internet services in the country using 5G technology. The government expects that the connected submarine cable will be a milestone in economic development and growth in the age of communication technology. The government will sign an agreement to join the international SEA-ME-WE-6 consortium in April 2020.

Bangladesh will have access to the main cable of the submarine from June 2023. It will meet the demand of the Internet bandwidth up to 2030. Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited-BSCCL sources said that Bangladesh has become a member of the SEA-ME-WE-6 consortium which has been formed for the new submarine cable line. The cable will be connected to the SEA-ME-WE-6 consortium between Singapore and Sri Lanka.

Through the consortium, Bangladesh will get a total of 5 terabytes of bandwidth internet from Cox's Bazar to Singapore and 5 terabytes from Cox's Bazar to France. To get connected with it, the distance from the Cox's Bazar Landing Station to the main line beneath the deep sea will be 1850 km long. The connection will cost Tk 690 crore. Almost 89 percent of the amount will be spent on cable only. The final decision will be taken at a high level meeting soon. Bangladesh will sign the original agreement with the consortium in April. A memorandum of understanding was signed last September for this.

In this regard, Postal and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar said, "We are now in the age of five-G technology. But still we are using low quality broadband facilities. In this reality, the third submarine cable will be a milestone in technology development and economic growth”. The final agreement to join the international consortium will be done in April. As a result, Bangladesh will connect to the main cable of the third submarine in 2023. This connection will meet our bandwidth demand for the next 10 years. The minister also added that Bangladesh has made huge technological progress. With it, the new submarine cable will meet our long-term demand.

The cable distance of the Singapore-France connection to the SEA-ME-WE-6 consortium is 20 thousand kilometers. Apart from Bangladesh, other 16 countries will be connected to this information super highway. Three companies will be connected from China. There will be 20 landing stations. Bangladesh joined the consortium on September last year. The main route between Singapore to France will be 1850 km away from Bangladesh. This distance is the route of Bangladesh itself. And Bangladesh will bear the full cost of installing its own route cable.

Members of the SEA-ME-WE 6 consortium will collectively pay for the main line, which is located between Singapore-France. Basically, Bangladesh's own station will be set up in the middle of the Bay of Bengal between Singapore and Sri Lanka. All the consortium work will be done by the company. The company that will get the job of SEA-ME-WE 6, the tender evaluation and finalization program of the consortium in Singapore, will be finalized after doing a pre-survey.

The cable would come from the branching station and connect to the landing station of Cox's Bazar. This present landing station is for SEA-ME-WE 4, which is the country's first submarine cable landing station. This will be extended and will be used for SEA-ME-WE 6. The meaning of SEA-ME-WE is Southeast Asia - Middle East and Western Europe. The cable is placed through this area and the name of each area is connected.

For the last time in the SEA-ME-WE 5 line connected countries of this area were Bangladesh, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Djibouti, Egypt, Turkey, Italy, France, Myanmar and Yemen. These 19 countries are linked through 19 landing points.

Internet users and demand is increasing day by day in Bangladesh. To meet the future demand of internet bandwidth this SEA-ME-WE line 6 will definitely play an important role in the technology and communication industry of Bangladesh.

The cost of Internet Bandwidth in Bangladesh reduced at 180 TK per mbps

The government has reduced the cost of internet bandwidth to BD Taka 180 from BD Taka 360 to ensure internet access at affordable cost for the users across the country. This new costing will be effective from 1st July 2019. The decision has been taken by the Posts and Telecommunications Division under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. The aim is to reduce bandwidth prices to the lowest level.

This decision was taken at a meeting called "Digital Infrastructure Development for a Digital Bangladesh" at the conference room of the Post and Telecommunications Department on Thursday (June 27th). The meeting was chaired by the Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabber. The secretary of the Department Ashok Kumar Biswas was also present in the meeting.

The honorable Minister Mr. Mustafa Jabber said about the redundancy of internet bandwidth. He also said that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government is very IT friendly.

In order to make it possible for ordinary people to use the internet at an affordable cost, in August 2009, the price of every mbps internet bandwidth was reduced from 27 thousand taka to 18 thousand taka. Later, in April 2011, Taka 12 thousand, Taka 8 thousand in April 2012, Taka 2,800 in April 2014 and the cost was reduced at maximum of 960 Taka in September 2015 and the minimum of Taka 360.

He said, from 1996 to 2001 and from 2009 to till, there has been a radical change in the country for the development of Information Technology sector. Even in 2008, around 7.5 gbps bandwidth were used in the whole country. But now it has now been upgraded to 1100 gbps.

Re-priced list of internet related services in different categories:

• IP transit for IIG: Bandwidth mbps up to 500-999 charge 350 taka per mbps.
• For minimum 3 years, 335 per mbps.
• Bandwidth mbps 50000+ charge 300 per mbps.
• For minimum of 2 year term the mbps charge is Tk. 285.

IP transit for ISP:

• Bandwidth mbps (5-19) (from only Upazila or Union level) per mbps charge is 400 taka.
• For minimum 3-year contract, mbps charges up to Tk 375.
• Bandwidth mbps 40000+ charge Tk 310 per mbps .
• For minimum 3-year contract, the charge per mbps is Tk. 290.

BTCL Local Content Transmission Charge:

• Transmission charge in the area of ​​greater Dhaka Tk. ​​30 per mbps.
• Transmission charge out of ​​Dhaka is Tk 100 per mbps.

For Education and Training Institution:

• Bandwidth mbps upto 5-99 charge 300 Taka per mbps.
• For minimum 5-year contract, charged at Tk. 270 per mbps.
• Bandwidth mbps 3000 and above charge of 200 Taka per mbps.
• For minimum 5-year contract, mbps charges up to 180 taka.

For government offices, semi-government organizations and corporate offices:

• Bandwidth mbps 5-49 charge Tk. 395 per mbps.
• For minimum 5-year contract, the charge is 355 taka per mbps.
• Bandwidth mbps 3000+ charges up to 250 taka per mbps.
• For minimum 5-year contract, the charges is are Tk 225 per mbps.

VPN Services:

• Same-rate bandwidth (mbps) across the country, from 1 to 5 mbps 300 taka per mbps
• Bandwidth (mbps) 10000 or more, per mbps 30 taka.

Apart from this, customers of rural area will get 10% discount from the above mentioned charges. At the same time, the cost of bandwidth of Linux web hosting packages and Windows Web hosting packages has been reduced.

The much awaited MNP mobile number portability service has been started in Bangladesh. Mobile phone users in the country can now change to any SIM or operator switching their existing 11-digit mobile phone number. Customers will be able to switch to his desired operator without changing the numbers. At present, Grameenphone, Robi & Airtel, Banglalink, Teletalk are the mobile phone operator in the country.

Singapore is pioneered the service in 1997, India began MNP services in 2011 and Pakistan launched it in 2007. As a 72^nd country Bangladesh has launch this service on 1^st October, 2018. Bangladesh is a competitive market for all the Telecom service providers. The service is expected to improve the quality of telecom service as competition among operators will increase to ensure satisfaction and retain customers.

BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission) first took the initiative in 2009 to start this service and it was discussed by the parliamentary standing committee several times. The recent launch of the MNP service will bring an end to the telecom regulator's decade-long efforts. The mobile number portability service has been launched on October 1 as trial basis. Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, the service will be launched officially later following feedback from customers on the test run.

Process and Charges of change SIM:

• Customer will be charged BDT 50 including 15% VAT (value added tax) to change the provider
• Another BDT 100 has to be paid within 24 hours after the application
• The phone users will be charged a total of BDT 158, including a charge and the SIM replacement tax
• The application process will take a maximum of five minutes and it will take around 72 hours to get the final confirmation
• Customers need to visit customer care center to complete the process
• Customer can’t switch to another operator within 90 days of the change

On the launching of the MNP service Md Jahirul Haque, acting chairman of BTRC - Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission said, “Mobile phone operators will feel the pressure and definitely they will concentrate on improving quality to retain existing customers and attract customers from other operators”. The MNP will change the telecom market dynamics for better within a few months.

The vice president of Robi Axiata Limited Ekram Kabir said, “We have begun to provide MNP service to the people” and he already thanked all the customers who have already chosen Robi and Airtel on the very first day of the MNP service in BD.

In June 2013, BTRC asked all the mobile operators in Bangladesh to introduce the MNP service in Bangladesh. In 2016 BTRC decided to appoint a third party to offer the service and awarded the license to Infozillion in November 2017. In 2018 the 1^st May was set launch the SIM changing service but the date was deferred twice as the operators were not ready. Infozillion BD Teletech, a joint venture between a Bangladeshi firm and a Slovenian firm.

All the operators in the country, small or big, now have equal chances in the business and it will also ensure a level-playing field for all of them.

Among the 15 Crore mobile users of the Bangladeshi population only one-two percent are aware of the services they are availing. Seventeen people have changed operators since the start of the service on the first day.
